UNIQUE VICTORIAN BEADED PURSE WITH LARGE JEWELS, FRAME This is an extraordinary, very OLD, Victorian black fine beaded purse, with large black glass jewels arranged very effectively in an attractive design on the front. The purse is large, and measures 7 1/4 wide by 11 inches long. It has a gunmetal color frame. The back is black silk moire fabric with glittery black braid trim around all edges. The way it sparkles it appears to be beaded, at first glance. This trim is original to the purse and not added later. The lining is black fabric and is in fine shape. Condition: The beadwork is in EXCELLENT condition. No missing beads. It is perfect at the hinge areas too. The fringe is all intact and perfect. Nothing to apologize for in the beading of this purse. The large glass jewels are also in perfect condition, none are cracked, chipped or missing. (they catch the light very nicely and sparkle!) The silk fabric on the back of the purse has three holes in it, one is in the upper left area, and one is on either side of the bottom, right next to the trim. You could take the sewn-on trim off, replace this fabric completely if desired, to restore it, and put the trim back on. There are long black braided cord straps, and tassels, but they are worn, and one of the tassels has no strands hanging, only the top part. They could be removed. The cords themselves are in perfect condition. They are long enough to make the purse really a shoulder purse. This purse is usable, and would also look great in any Victorian vintage display. I would date this purse to 1870’s. $195 |
